The ABTech Difference

Back in 2010, GE Aviation engineers approached us to develop equipment, using our rotary air-bearings. that they could use to build their jet engines. This concept was not new, but these engineers were frustrated with their previous vendor and were on a mission to find a company they could partner with for higher quality, better service, and a continuous improvement initiative. Their motivation was not obvious to us at first but has been expressed several times since as we’ve continued to be their supplier of engine assembly systems.

After navigating their licensing process, which is sometimes a challenge in itself as you can imagine dealing with a corporate giant like GE, we are now able to supply GE’s GENSPECT stack prediction software along with our air-bearing platforms for complete turnkey systems not only to GE but independent MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul) facilities worldwide.

Taking Our Own Leap Forward

In 2015 our partnership took another step forward in terms of success for ABTech. As part of GE’s new LEAP engine ramp up this year, we were awarded our largest single purchase order to date of well over a million dollars! Combined with that, GE is also fast-tracking their new GE9X engine line, which required us to develop a new larger platform, we have a significant production backlog well into 2016.

As a result, we have hired five more machinists and a production/purchasing support person, as well as purchased two new ProtoTRAK Bed Mills and a LapMaster power lap. These additions will increase our production capacity and reduce our lead times so that we can continue to support not only GE but our form measurement metrology products, high-speed air-bearing spindles, and all of our other business sectors.

We didn’t really do anything different with GE than we do with any other customer. Regardless of whether it is a major global company or a small startup, we take the time to listen to what they need and then provide them with the best possible solution, all the while treating them the way we expect to be treated. Here at ABTech we just think this is the right way to do business.
